AGA-Africa Programme Board Member, Markus Green, International Advisor, John Edozie and Programme Director and Country Coordinator for Kenya, Chukukere Unamba-Oparah, represented the Programme’s leadership at the 16th Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Africa Prosecutors’ Association (APA) where distinguished delegates and heads of prosecuting agencies from Africa converged in Mombasa, Kenya.

The three-day conference themed ‘Strengthening coordination and cooperation towards effective cross-border prosecution of transnational organized crime’ brought together delegates comprising Directors Public Prosecution (DPPs), Attorney Generals (AGs) and Prosecutors from regional prosecuting authorities from 43 African countries.

The conference was officially opened by His Excellency Hon. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya. In his remarks, he urged prosecutors to play their role as spelled out in the constitution and as guided solely by the law.

The AGA-Africa Programme brought in two subject matter experts: Former Attorney General of Idaho, Lawrence Wasden, who took part in the panel discussion: ‘Repatriation of Proceeds of Crime’ and Alex Osuga, Technical Lead at Security Operations Center, who was on the panel discussing ‘Experiences and Best Practices in Adducing Electronic Evidence’.

Other keynote speakers at the conference included Moses Wetangula, Speaker of the National Assembly, Kenya who graced the final day of the conference, Noordin Haji, Director Public Prosecutions, Kenya, Dorcas Oduor, Secretary Public Prosecutions and the Principal Deputy to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Kenya, Hon. Sylvester Mwakitalu, Director Public Prosecutions, Tanzania and President East Africa Association of Prosecutors, Adv. Shamila Batohi, Director of Public Prosecutions, National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa, Aimable Havugiyaremye, Prosecutor General, National Public Prosecution Authority, Rwanda, Gilbert Phiri, Director, National Prosecution Authority, Zambia, Kennedy Ogeto, Solicitor General of the Republic of Kenya, Abdulswamad Nassir, Governor, Mombasa County, Her Excellency Ambassador Henriette Geiger, European Union Ambassador to Kenya,  Frederic Bayard, Project Director, Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism in Eastern, Southern, Central Africa and Yemen (AML-CFT ESCAY), Reiner Fraunfeld, Director, United Nations Office for Project Services, Maria Temesvari, Deputy Regional Representative, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Office for Eastern Africa, and Senator Wakili Hillary Sigei, Chairperson, Legal Affairs and Human Rights Committee.
