AGA-Africa in collaboration with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Kenya (ODPP) and the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) for the District of Columbia held the first Prosecutors mentorship programme from 13th January – 21st February, 2020 in Washington DC, USA.
The mentorship programme was aimed at training the mentees on topics such as case Management and administration, human resources, homicide Cases, financial Crimes, money laundering, corruption, countering terrorism and work ethics.
A total of six mentees from Kenya were trained as they moved from different departments and offices of the Federal & State Attorney General’s Office including Criminal, General Litigation, Child Protection, Juvenile Justice, Data analysis/IT and Operations/Finance in order to gain the much needed expertise. The mentees had an intensive skills training on the history of the District of Columbia and the Office of the Attorney General, the use of information technology at OAG, government ethics, trial skills, legal writing, and an overview of critical federal rules of evidence.
The officers are now expected to serve as change champions at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutors Kenya as well as the criminal justice sector in Kenya.
