Oral Advocacy and Electronic Evidence Workshop with Kogi State Judiciary and Kogi State Office of the Public Defender and Citizens Rights Commission, Nigeria

Oral advocacy is a much needed skill in the legal landscape in Nigeria and the skill gap has increased the imperative for the mastery of oral advocacy for legal practitioners.

As part of its commitment to enhancing capacity building in the legal profession, the AGA-Africa Programme collaborated with the Kogi State Judiciary and the Kogi State Office of the Public Defender and Citizens Rights Commission for a workshop titled: ‘Oral Advocacy and Electronic Evidence’. The workshop took place from 1st-2nd December 2022.

The workshop brought together participants comprising prosecutors, investigators, lawyers and paralegals from Kogi State as well as local, regional and international subject matter experts from Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria and the United States.

The workshop was officially opened and moderated by Ebelechukwu Enedah, AGA-Africa Country Coordinator for Nigeria, who also spoke on behalf of Markus Green, AGA-Africa, Board Member.

Ms. Folashade Ayode, Secretary to the State Government delivered the keynote address on behalf of His Excellency Governor Yahaya Bello, Governor, Kogi State. Abdullahi Zakari, Director General, Kogi State Office of the Public Defender and Citizens Rights Commission also spoke at the opening.

The highly engaging sessions were facilitated by Hon. Justice Alaba Omolaye-Ajileye, Judge, High Court of Justice, Kogi State, Hon. Justice Abdul Awulu, Judge, High Court of Justice, Kogi State, Carol Thomas-Jacobs, Chief Deputy Attorney General, Virgin Islands, Dzikondianthu Malunda, Senior Assistant Chief State Advocate, Directorate Public Prosecutions, Malawi and Hanningtone Amol, Team Leader, ALP East Africa in Kenya.

Hon. Justice Alaba Omolaye-Ajileye, Judge, High Court of Justice, Kogi State and Abdullahi Zakari, Director General, Kogi State Office of the Public Defender and Citizens Rights Commission delivered the closing remarks, thanking all the participants.

The workshop was officially brought to a close by Ebelechukwu Enedah, AGA-Africa Country Coordinator for Nigeria.
