Prosecution Training Institute (PTI), Kenya Receives Book Donation from Books For Africa and the Thomson Reuters Foundation in partnership with the AGA-Africa Programme

The AGA-Africa Programme partnered with Books For Africa and the Thomson Reuters Foundation to donate over 146 Law and Democracy books valued at over forty thousand US Dollars (US$40,000) to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Kenya for its Prosecution Training Institute (PTI). The handover ceremony, which included a tour of the Prosecution Training Institute (PTI), took place on 26th January, 2023.

The ceremony was attended by Noordin Haji, Director of Public Prosecutions, Kenya, Dorcas Oduor, Secretary, Public Prosecutions and the Principal Deputy to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Kenya, Markus Green, AGA-Africa Programme Board Member, Chukukere Unamba-Oparah, AGA-Africa Programme Director and Country Coordinator for Kenya,  Alloys Kemo, Deputy Director in the Department of Prosecution Training Institute (PTI), Victor Mule, Acting Deputy Director, Department of County Affairs, Regulatory Services, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Kenya and Mary Mwenje, Deputy Head of Prosecution Training Institute at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, among others.

In his remarks, Noordin Haji, expressed gratitude to the Programme: “AGA-Africa has stood with us all through and has contributed immensely to each and every task we have tried to undertake,” he said as he expressed optimism that the Prosecution Training Institute – a flagship project of the ODPP – would be a success story not only in Kenya but also in the region.

On his part, Markus Green noted that the donation of the books was part of a larger effort to support the continuous learning and capacity building in the criminal justice sector in countries across Africa such as; Ghana, Nigeria, Malawi and Zambia with the aim to build expertise across national, regional and international frontiers in enhancing the fight against transnational crimes and strengthen the rule of law.

Other speakers included Dorcas Oduor, Secretary, Public Prosecutions and the Principal Deputy to the Director of Public Prosecutions and Chukukere Unamba-Oparah, AGA-Africa Programme Director and Country Coordinator for Kenya.
