Webinar on ‘Effective Investigation and Prosecution of the Offense of Rape & Other Gender-Based Violence Offenses’ with Cross River State, Nigeria and AGA-Africa

Rooted in deep seated gender inequality, Gender-Based Violence is a shameful crime and a violation of human rights with far reaching implication. AGA-Africa exists to protect the most vulnerable in society. To stem this rampant and devastating crime AGA-Africa in collaboration with Cross River State Government, a Webinar themed Effective Investigation and Prosecution of the Offence of Rape and other Gender-Based Violence Offences on 2nd and 3rd December 2020.

The hybrid in-class and virtual Webinar was officially opened by Country Coordinator for Nigeria, Ebelechukwu Enedah and Markus Green Esq. AGA-Africa Board Member.

Gracing the occasion on site were the Hon. Acting Chief Judge of Cross River State Hon Justice Eyo Ita, and the Hon Attorney General Cross River State Tanko Ashang.

The panelists for the two day webinar were Hon. Robert Hettleman, New York State Family Court Judge (retired) and Karen Sciarrotta, Prosecutor, Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, Phoenix, Arizona from the USA and Lydia Muthiani, Human Rights Lawyer from Kenya and Victoria Asiedua,  Principal State Attorney  in the Officer of  the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice Ghana who presented virtually while  Felix I Ititim Esq, Director Public prosecution, Cross-River State Nigeria and Dr. (Mrs) Rose Ohiama Ugbe, Associate Professor, Nigeria delivered their presentations at the venue.

Moderating the panel discussion was Chief Anthony Idigbe, the Senior Partner at Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors from Nigeria.

The participants were divided into groups and given case studies on different forms of Gender-Based Violence to discuss and present.

Susan Lustig, AGA-Africa Administrative Director, brought the insightful webinar to a close.
