The Covid-19 pandemic and the attendant lockdown measures to control the spread, has forced courts and advocates to adapt a new pace in the dispensation of justice. Advocates and judges alike have begun to grapple with some of the challenges in doing their work.
Courts and advocates are now rapidly gaining experience of the skills required to deal effectively with remote hearings through virtual courtrooms.
AGA-Africa in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Justice, Nigeria held a two-day webinar on Advocacy Skills and Technique for Virtual Hearing from 13th – 14th April, 2021 in Nigeria. The two-day webinar was tailored towards addressing the issues of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the administration of justice, how it has forever changed the “normal” which now requires policy changes on how to implement effective and efficient virtual court hearing system in Nigeria.
The webinar was officially opened by Markus Green, AGA-Africa Board Member, Abubakar Malami, SAN, Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice – Nigeria.
The webinar sessions were led by Olubunmi Salami, Assistant Polk County Attorney, Des Moines, Iowa, Natalae Velez, Owner, Natalae Velez Consulting, Chief Anthony Idigbe, SAN, Senior Partner, Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors and Stephen Kiptinness, Senior Partner, Technology & Intellectual Property.
