Effective Administration of Criminal Justice workshop with Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria

Administration of justice is a vital function of every government and a fundamental right for all citizens of a country.

To facilitate capacity building in the area of Effective Administration of Criminal Justice, the AGA-Africa Programme collaborated with Imo State on a highly engaging workshop held on 7th -8th December 2022.   

The workshop was aimed at promoting effective administration of criminal justice, promotes speedy dispensation of justice, protect the society from crime, and promote a deliberate shift from punishment as the main goal of the criminal justice to restorative justice, which pays attention to the needs of the society, the victims, vulnerable persons and human dignity.

The workshop brought together judicial officers from Imo State, national, regional and international subject matter experts from Kenya, Nigeria and the United States.

The workshop was officially opened by Ebelechukwu Enedah, AGA-Africa Country Coordinator for Nigeria.

At the opening, there were keynote addresses from Chief Sir C.O.C Akaolisa, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Imo State and Cletus Akowundu, Solicitor General/Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Imo State.

The highly engaging sessions were moderated by Ebelechukwu Enedah and facilitated by Cletus Akowudu, Solicitor General/Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Imo State, Leigh Skipper, Partner Duane Morris, Ojiugo Chukwumaeze, Principal State Counsel and Head Etiti Outstation, Department of Public Prosecutions, Imo State Ministry of Justice, Anthony Chuks Nwanweri, Private Legal Practitioner and Hannigtone Amol, Team Leader, ALP East Africa in Kenya.

Cletus Akowundu, Solicitor General/Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Imo State gave closing remarks.

The workshop was brought to a close by Ebelechukwu Enedah, AGA-Africa Country Coordinator for Nigeria who thanked all the participants for attending virtually and in person.
