From 2011 to date, more than 50 cases in Nigeria were decided through the use of electronically generated evidence. This is to be expected against the backdrop of widespread use of technology cutting across all sectors including crime. However, the ability to submit compelling electronic evidence is not enough if it is not coupled with the ability to persuade and convince.
To facilitate capacity building in the area of oral advocacy, AGA-Africa collaborated with the Kaduna State Ministry of Justice on a highly engaging ‘Oral Advocacy and Electronic Evidence’ workshop held on 13th-14th of September 2022.
The workshop brought together participants from Law enforcement agencies, Legal councils, Treasury managers, Risk management and Compliance departments of Financial Institutions, Capital market operators, Insurance Companies, Fintech Companies and other Financial Institutions, Regulatory Authorities and regional and subject matter experts from Nigeria, Kenya and the United States.
The workshop was officially opened by Ebelechukwu Enedah, AGA-Africa Country Coordinator for Nigeria, who delivered opening remarks on behalf of Markus Green, AGA-Africa Board Member. At the opening, Dari Bayero, ESQ, Solicitor General, Kaduna State, spoke on behalf of Aisha Dikko, Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Kaduna State Ministry of Justice.
The highly interactive sessions were moderated by Ebelechukwu Enedah, AGA-Africa Country Coordinator for Nigeria and facilitated by Carol Thomas-Jacobs, Chief Deputy Attorney General, Virgin Islands, USA, Hon. Justice Alaba Omolaye Ajileye, Judge of the High Court of Justice, Kogi State, Dr. Elachi Agada, President Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators Nnamdi Oragwu, Partner, PUNUKA Attorneys and Solicitors and Hanningtone Amol, Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and Team Lead of ALP East Africa in Kenya.
Aisha Dikko, Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Kaduna State Ministry of Justice graced the closing ceremony and delivered brief remarks. The workshop was officially closed by Ebelechukwu Enedah, AGA-Africa Country Coordinator for Nigeria.
