The Malawi Police Service recently discovered that despite efforts to produce a criminal investigation module capable of sharpening skills of police investigators, not much was done in preparing trainers and training institutions for effective delivery of the module.

To facilitate capacity building in the area of the Training of Trainers for Criminal Investigators, AGA-Africa collaborated with the Malawi Police Service for a workshop that was held on 24th-28th October 2022.

The workshop brought together criminal investigation trainers from the Malawi Police Service, as well as local, regional and international subject matter experts from Ghana, Malawi, Zambia and the United States.

The workshop was officially opened and moderated by Gift Chikwakwa, AGA-Africa Country Coordinator for Malawi who also made opening remarks on behalf of Markus Green, AGA-Africa Board Member.

Gift Chiundira, Assistant Commissioner of Police, made brief remarks before inviting Happy Makamdiwire, Deputy Inspector General of Police to deliver a keynote address on behalf of Merlyne Yolamu, Inspector General of Police.

At the opening, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between AGA-Africa and the Malawi Police Service by Gift Chikwakwa, AGA-Africa Country Coordinator for Malawi and Happy Mkwandawire, Deputy Inspector General of Police.

The highly engaging sessions were facilitated by Melissa Pulver, Special Agent Arizona Attorney General’s Office, Dr. Herbert Yankson, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ghana Police Service, Masauso Kalililo, Senior Staff Officer, Zambia Police Service, Ian Ngwenya, Drug Officer, Kamuzu International Airport, Mercy Mazyopa, Desk Officer for Training, Malawi Police Service and Limbikirani Mkandawire, Deputy Commandant, Central Regional Training Center.

Senior Superintendent Francis Mlanga, Commandant Central Region Police Training Center, delivered closing remarks on behalf of Gift Chiundira Assistant Commissioner of Police.

The workshop was officially brought to a close by Gift Chikwakwa, AGA-Africa Country Coordinator for Malawi, who commended the officers for their participation and dedication to upholding the rule of law in Malawi.
